About Charles Maiga

Charles Maiga has worked in the civil society sector in Tanzania since 2010. He is the Founder and Executive Director of the Sustainable Hub for Policy Initiatives (SHPI), established in 2012 and officially registered in 2013. He also founded the Butiama Civil Society Organization Network (BUDICNET) in Tanzania, where he served as its chairperson for ten (10) years.

His work with the Peace and Reconciliation and Environmental Conservation Centre (PRECC) aligns well with his deep-seated advocacy for a sustainable environment, human rights, good governance, transparency, accountability, social inclusion, and citizen engagement and participation. Active 1: His diverse social commitments and established reputation helped him build a good relationship with donors. As a result, the donors granted funds to support his socio-economic and capacity-building initiatives for the local communities in Mara, Tanzania.

Some of his projects were: Wabia Network, an income-generating project by using milling machines acquired and funded by the United States Embassy in Tanzania; Gender Based Violence (GBV) projects funded by the Foundation for Civil Society; Public Expenditures Tracking Survey (PETs) and Social Accountability Monitoring (SAM) projects funded by the Foundation for Civil Society, including involvement in the Tanzanian National Electoral Commission project for voter´s education dissemination, and project affiliations with the Voluntary Service non-government organization project pertaining to social accountability monitoring and citizen audit accountability audit activities in Mara, Tanzania.

Charles has an academic background in Governance and Development (Arusha,Tanzania) and a diploma in Computer Science from St. Augustine University of Tanzania. His additional trainings in policy advocacy, agricultural budget and monitoring, leadership and management, business planning, finance and accounting techniques significantly contribute to his success in managing the SHPI civil society organization in Tanzania.
